RecoloringTutorial for those afraid of Sim Pe!

A while back my friend holleyb76 was wanting to recolor some posters for her Maxis Taste Dare, but the tutorials I've seen out there make it seem much more complicated than it need be (burying the information in a load of things most players wouldn't need to know.) It's actually quite easy, so I threw together a tutorial for her in google docs. I figured other simmers might find it useful, so I'm sharing it here in case anyone else would like that information.

Don't let the word "Sim Pe" scare you, if you can open a file you can use photostudio!

Wow this is super helpful! Thank you! I've always wanted to create custom pictures and this is a great chance.
Now if only you could add a tutorial on how your pictures are so clear! I have GIMP, but don't really understand the different things you talked about on formspring.

Thanks! I've never tried SimPe before, but I've been wanting to recolour some pictures.
A few Questions:
How would you go about recolouring pitures if you wanted a frame left out for pictures? If you were recolouring a picture with a frame would it sorta be self-explainatory when I entered SimPe. And also (So many questions! Sorry!) with the frame concept, what if you wanted to put different photos into different frames in the same object?
For example in the case of an object like this:

When using photostudio, you're pretty much stuck with the frames unless you can find a slaved version without it. (Or just to recolor something without a frame)

For the multiple pictures within a frame, you would probably have to recolor it using the object workshop. Downloading and setting up the necessary tools is kind of a hassle, but once you get that done it's really not that difficult: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=102356

I actually meant to say keep the frames, so that's good!
And finally for the multi picture thing, would the pictures (say there were 4 in the frame set) be pressed together or separate things to recolour?

Most likely they would be together and you would have to resize and paste them in, but it really depends on the mapping of the object. When you use the design tool on the object in game, if it allows you to change each picture individually then you could do them separately.

Lovely tutorial. ^^ One thing I wanted to mention though, is that some images do need to be flipped, like The Lady On Red. No idea why EAxis made some of their meshes backwards, but I had to redo a fair few poster recolours because I kept forgetting that.

Yeah, that is a good point. I was doing this with the travelposter in mind, but you're right there are a few that call for flipping and even rotating. I'll put a note in the tutorial about it, thanks!

Wow, this is a lot simpler than the way I recolor. I've been using Object Workshop for all my photo/painting recolors but this definitely seems like a much faster way of doing things.
